Marie Sue Parsons and I have been hosting an annual garage sale in the Mountain View School neighborhood for nearly 10 years.  We do this as a courtesy to the neighborhood and as a way for neighbors to clean out their homes, get out and meet each other, have some fun and maybe earn a little money!  We love organizing it each year, meeting new people and doing a little shopping of our own.  For me, the last few years have been the best:  Now that I have my own child I am always looking for gently used toys, kids clothing, and baby stuff.  The neighborhood is such a kid friendly area that I’m always sure to find little treasures at each sale. 

What we do:

  • Run ads in the Santa Barbara News Press, and other various places in print media
  • Mention it on Craigslist, other local news websites, and our e-newsletter to attract as many buyers as possible
  • Put signs in front of each participant’s house and directional signs in and around the neighborhood
  • Shop, shop, shop - My personal favorite part!

What participants do:

  • Put out items you’d like to sell
  • Price your items or be prepared with a price in mind
  • Open your garage and sell, sell, sell!
